  • Nodus, a brand born from a convergence of passions, presents the Sector II Sport, a series of watches that embodies the spirit of exploration in a refined, modern form. Founded in 2017 by two friends with a shared love for horology, Nodus set out to create timepieces that are as functional as they are adaptable. The Sector II Sport represents the evolution of their core design philosophy.

The Sector concept stems from the idea that a well-designed watch platform should be versatile enough to handle various situations. The Sector Series is a family of watches based on the idea of efficient design, making them wearable by people of all ages. The series builds a standard versatile midcase that can adapt to various finishes and components, offering infinite evolution. The "sector dial," a design element typically divided by physical boundaries, is another key feature, traditionally found in watches ranging from military to formal dress models. These two elements, the versatile midcase and sector-inspired dial, are the defining characteristics of the Sector Series, though they remain flexible to meet the needs of each specific design.

The Sector II Sport boasts a significant reduction in thickness compared to its predecessor. At just 11.7mm thick, it's among the slimmest watches using the Seiko NH movement, a considerable achievement considering its 100m water resistance. This slim profile is achieved through the incorporation of a box-shaped sapphire crystal. This design choice allows the dial and hands to sit closer to the crystal, optimizing space and contributing to an overall sleek aesthetic.

The influence of mid-20th century exploration watches is readily apparent in the Sector II Sport's design. During that era, advancements in watchmaking led to more durable and accurate timepieces, making them common tools for adventurers. These watches typically featured robust steel cases, simple, uncluttered dials, and water resistance. The Sector II Sport embodies this practical, go-anywhere spirit.

The Sector II Sport is available in three distinct variations, each with its own character. There's the Sector II Tone Sport with a blue dial, featuring a bronze bezel, the all-stainless steel Sector II Sport with a black (Void) dial, and the Sector II Sport with a white (Frost) dial. All three share the same core design elements. The cases are constructed from 316L surgical-grade stainless steel, known for its corrosion resistance and durability, and come with a 38mm width, 11.7mm thickness, and 47mm lug-to-lug measurement. These dimensions make for a watch that's substantial enough to feel robust, yet comfortable on a wide range of wrist sizes. The lug width is 20mm.

The dials of all three watches are very appealing, with a glossy enamel finish that gives them a smooth, refined appearance. The numerals and indices are treated with Swiss Super-LumiNova BGW9 Grade A, ensuring excellent legibility in low-light conditions. The use of BGW9 lume provides a bright, blue-green glow, a modern touch that contrasts with the vintage-inspired design.

The Sector II Tone Sport with the blue dial stands out with its bronze bezel and crown, which will develop a unique patina over time, adding a personal touch to each watch. The black dialed version has a classic, understated look, and the white dial variation has a clean, minimalist aesthetic.

All three watches are powered by the TMI NH38, a Japanese automatic movement known for its reliability. This no-date movement has a power reserve of 41 hours. Nodus regulates each movement to an accuracy of +/- 10 seconds per day, ensuring dependable timekeeping. The movement is antimagnetic to 4800 A/m.

The crystal is a key component of the Sector II Sport's design. It's a flat-top sapphire crystal, with a domed underside, contributing to the watch's slim profile. The underside of the crystal features a blue anti-reflective coating, enhancing readability by reducing glare.

Each Sector II Sport comes equipped with an oyster-style stainless steel bracelet that tapers from 20mm at the lugs to 16mm at the clasp. The bracelet features Nodus' proprietary NodeX clasp. This is a significant detail, as the NodeX system allows for quick, on-the-fly adjustments, providing a total of 10mm of play in four locking positions. This makes it easy to find the perfect fit, ensuring comfort throughout the day, regardless of temperature changes or wrist swelling. The quick-release spring bars on the bracelet also make it simple to swap out straps.

The Sector II Sport is a testament to Nodus' commitment to quality and functional design. The careful consideration given to the case dimensions, movement, dial, and bracelet results in a watch that's both aesthetically pleasing and practical.

The attention to detail extends to the crown. The Tone Sport has a screw-down crown, crafted from bronze, while the other varients all utilize a stainless steel, screw-down crown. This design feature, combined with the watch's construction, helps ensure the 100m water resistance, making it suitable for swimming and other water activities, though not for deep diving.

The Sector II Sport's dial design offers exceptional legibility. The hour markers and hands are well-proportioned and contrast effectively with the dial color, making it easy to read the time at a glance. The absence of a date window contributes to the dial's clean, symmetrical layout, a nod to the simplicity of classic tool watches. The hands of the watch are well-sized and coated with the same Super-LumiNova BGW9 as the hour markers. This consistency in luminescent material ensures that all elements of the dial are equally visible in the dark, providing a cohesive and functional display.

The Sector II Tone Sport, with its blue dial and bronze accents, is priced at $500. The Sector II Sport models, with either the black or white dials, are available for $475. This pricing positions the Sector II Sport competitively within the microbrand watch market, offering solid value for a well-built, thoughtfully designed timepiece. They are available on the Nodus website.
