Founded in 1868, IWC Schaffhausen has been at the forefront of watchmaking, known for its combination of precise Swiss craftsmanship and technological innovation. With a storied history spanning over 150 years, IWC has created timepieces that are cherished not only for their functionality but also for their aesthetic appeal. The Pilot's Watch collection, in particular, has been a cornerstone of IWC's catalog, celebrated for its robustness, precision, and durability.

The new Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 series is a testament to IWC’s commitment to innovation. These timepieces are designed to perform in the fast lane, combining IWC's experience in developing industry-leading chronographs with expertise in advanced materials like titanium and Ceratanium®.

Two materials dominate this series: titanium and Ceratanium®. The Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41 AMG model features a case, case back ring, crown, and pushers crafted from titanium. Known for its high strength-to-density ratio, titanium is about 45 percent lighter than steel and remarkably rigid, making it a favorite in automotive engineering. The model dedicated to the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team, on the other hand, showcases the groundbreaking Ceratanium®. This material, developed by IWC, melds the lightness and structural integrity of titanium with hardness and scratch resistance akin to ceramic.

The functional prowess of the Performance Chronographs is underscored by their ceramic bezels with a tachymeter scale, a vital tool for measuring average speed over a distance. The bezels complement the watches' high-precision stopwatch functionality, making them essential for racing enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Each model in this series exudes a refined aesthetic, with polished black ceramic bezels and glossy black dials. The dials undergo a rigorous and controlled lacquering process, ensuring a pristine finish. The appliqués for the indices and numerals are individually polished by hand and filled with Super-LumiNova®, ensuring legibility under all conditions.

At the core of these timepieces is the IWC-manufactured 69385 calibre, a movement that embodies robustness, reliability, and precision. Comprising 242 individual parts, this movement is controlled by a column wheel mechanism, ensuring clearly defined phases in the chronograph's sequence and a distinct tactile resistance when the buttons are pushed.

IWC’s commitment to reliability is evident in the testing process each movement undergoes. Assembled in a dedicated line at IWC Schaffhausen’s Manufakturzentrum, these movements are tested for 12 full days in the IWC-developed FIM cell (final inspection movement), focusing on all relevant functions to ensure they meet the highest standards of performance.

The ethos of performance and precision in these timepieces is mirrored in IWC Schaffhausen’s partnerships. Since 2004, IWC has been in partnership with Mercedes-AMG, reflecting a shared commitment to high performance and engineering excellence. Further solidifying this connection, IWC became the “Official Engineering Partner” of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team in 2013.

It's a collection that appeals not just to watch aficionados but also to lovers of precision engineering and motor racing. With this launch, IWC Schaffhausen once again reaffirms its position as a leader in the world of luxury watchmaking, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative technology and a passion for speed.
