A decade ago,
HYT burst onto the watchmaking scene with a revolutionary concept: a wristwatch that tells time using colored liquids. Their groundbreaking hydromechanical technology was unlike anything else on the market, and it quickly earned them a reputation for innovation and daring.
Now, in 2024, HYT is entering a new chapter. They are celebrating their 12th anniversary with the release of the T1 series, a collection of watches that marks a significant evolution for the brand.

The T1 series features a smaller, more refined diameter than HYT’s previous offerings. The watches in the collection are 45mm in diameter, making them more comfortable to wear on a wider range of wrists. The case is octagonal with subtly faceted sides and a domed sapphire crystal. For the first time, HYT is introducing a fully enclosed dial, which gives the watches a sleeker and more modern look.
The T1 series comes in four different references: salmon, silver, anthracite gray, and midnight blue. Each watch features a meticulously crafted dial with a circular satin finish along the minute track and hour ring. The color of the dial is contrasted by a tinted liquid in the glass capillary, which adds a touch of elegance and whimsy.

The T1 series is powered by the manually wound caliber 501-CM, which is visible through the open caseback. This movement has a power reserve of 72 hours and features HYT’s signature fluidic time display. In a complication unique to HYT, a colored liquid progressively fills the capillary throughout the day, marking the hour against a scale on the flange of the dial. After 12 hours, the liquid retrogrades back to the starting point and the cycle begins again.
The HYT T1 series is a bold and innovative collection of watches that celebrates the brand’s 12th anniversary. The watches in the collection are smaller, more refined, and more elegant than HYT’s previous offerings, but they still retain the brand’s signature avant-garde aesthetic. With their unique fluidic time display and meticulously crafted dials, the T1 series watches are sure to appeal to watch collectors who are looking for something truly special.
One of the most striking features of the T1 is its size. At 45mm in diameter, it’s quite a bit smaller than HYT’s previous generation of watches. The smaller case size addresses the current trend toward smaller timepieces, giving collectors with smaller wrists the opportunity to enjoy the HYT experience. The watch is also remarkably thin for a watch with HYT’s hydromechanical technology, measuring a mere 17.2mm in thickness. This slim profile makes the T1 incredibly comfortable to wear.

The case itself is a work of art. Constructed from two variations of titanium and a version with stunning 5N gold with black DLC titanium, it features an octagonal shape with subtly faceted sides. The case has been meticulously finished for a luxurious look and feel. The crown is positioned at 2 o’clock and is designed to ensure water resistance up to 50 meters. HYT’s attention to detail is impeccable.
The T1’s most unique feature, of course, is its fluidic time display. The system relies on a thin glass capillary filled with two immiscible liquids: a colored aqueous liquid and a transparent viscous liquid. The boundary between the two liquids – the meniscus – indicates the hour on the calibrated scale. The liquids are propelled through the capillary by two flexible reservoirs positioned at 6 o’clock, which are driven by pistons within the manually-wound caliber 501-CM.
The movement powering the T1 is truly exquisite. Composed of 352 individual parts, it's visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. The movement has a 72-hour power reserve, which is indicated on a display at 2 o’clock. The entire system is protected by no less than seven patents – a testament to the genius of HYT's engineers!

The process of developing a smaller watch with their signature fluidic technology presented a number of challenges. One big challenge was adapting the capillary, which has to be manufactured in-house using a complex and time-consuming process. Miniaturizing the pistons and bellows, which are the heart of the fluidic system, was also a major hurdle. However, HYT’s brilliant team of engineers and watchmakers rose to the challenge, delivering a watch that is both smaller and more sophisticated than anything they’ve made before.
While the T1 series marks a new era for HYT, it also celebrates the brand’s rich history. The fluidic time display was inspired by the ancient clepsydra, or water clock, showing how HYT continues to blend cutting-edge technology with centuries-old tradition.
Beyond its technical innovations, what makes the T1 so appealing is its overall look. It's a bold and unconventional watch that isn’t afraid to challenge the norms of traditional watchmaking. Its futuristic liquid time display and angular case will surely stand out from the crowd. However, it’s also remarkably versatile, with a clean and uncluttered dial that can be dressed up or down. Whether you’re pairing it with a suit or a T-shirt, the T1 is sure to make a statement.
HYT has been a pioneer in the world of high-end watchmaking since their inception in 2012. Their groundbreaking fluidic technology has captured the imaginations of watch enthusiasts worldwide, and they have earned a reputation for pushing the boundaries of what is possible in a wristwatch. With the introduction of the T1 series, HYT is demonstrating that they are not resting on their laurels but rather, continuing to innovate and evolve.
