Quick TakeThe Rolex Deepsea Challenge is a professional-grade divers’ watch built to take on the harshest underwater environments. With its lightweight RLX titanium case, unidirectional rotatable bezel, and Chromalight display, the Deepsea Challenge is a tool watch for the most serious divers. However, the Deepsea Challenge’s bold design and exceptional engineering also make it a conversation starter that is sure to impress even the most discerning watch enthusiast.
Description
The Rolex Deepsea Challenge (reference 126067) is a triumph of engineering, built to withstand the crushing pressure of the deep ocean. The Oyster case, measuring 50 mm in diameter, is crafted from RLX titanium, a grade 5 titanium alloy chosen for its exceptional lightness and resistance to corrosion. This material is 30% lighter than the 904L steel used in the experimental Deepsea watch that accompanied James Cameron to the Mariana Trench, making the Deepsea Challenge significantly more comfortable to wear during long dives. The RLX titanium case features a monobloc middle case, a screw-down case back, and a screw-down Triplock winding crown, all contributing to the watch’s remarkable water resistance of 11,000 meters (36,090 feet).
The unidirectional rotatable bezel of the Deepsea Challenge features a 60-minute graduated Cerachrom insert in black ceramic. The Cerachrom insert is virtually scratchproof and resistant to ultraviolet rays, ensuring that the diver can always rely on the bezel’s markings. The numerals and graduations on the bezel are coated with a thin layer of platinum using a Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) process. The Rolex Deepsea Challenge features a black dial with large Chromalight hour markers and hands. These markers and hands are filled with luminescent material that emits a long-lasting blue glow for excellent legibility in dark underwater environments. The simple shapes of the hour markers (triangles, circles, and rectangles) and the broad hour and minute hands contribute to the dial’s exceptional legibility.
The Rolex Deepsea Challenge is powered by the calibre 3230, a self-winding mechanical movement manufactured by Rolex. This movement is chronometer-certified by COSC (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute) and offers a precision of -2/+2 seconds per day. The calibre 3230 features a number of Rolex innovations, including a blue Parachrom hairspring and high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers. The blue Parachrom hairspring is resistant to magnetism and extreme temperature variations, ensuring the watch’s accuracy. The Paraflex shock absorbers protect the movement from shocks and vibrations. The calibre 3230 has a power reserve of approximately 70 hours. The Deepsea Challenge is fitted with an Oyster bracelet, also crafted from RLX titanium. The Oyster bracelet features three-piece solid links and a folding Oysterlock safety clasp. The bracelet is equipped with both the Rolex Glidelock extension system and the Fliplock extension link. The Glidelock system allows the wearer to adjust the length of the bracelet by up to 20 mm in increments of 2 mm, without the need for any tools. The Fliplock extension link allows the watch to be worn comfortably over a diving suit up to 7 mm thick. GenderMen
