DescriptionThe heart of the RM 40-01 is its exceptional in-house Calibre CRMT4 tourbillon movement. A testament to Richard Mille's horological prowess, this movement presented several firsts for the brand: an in-house power reserve display, oversize date complication, and function selector. To achieve this, the team invested over 8,600 hours in development. The movement's baseplate and bridges are expertly machined from grade 5 titanium, its lightness and resistance ensuring optimal gear functionality and longevity. A planetary differential drives the power reserve indicator, offering a visual representation of the watch's approximately 50-hour reserve. The tourbillon, a hallmark of high horology, underscores the commitment to precision and mechanical sophistication.

Encasing this mechanical marvel is a tripartite case that echoes the McLaren Speedtail's sleek, aerodynamic lines. The bezel and caseback are meticulously crafted from grade 5 titanium, prized for its strength and low weight. Intriguingly, the caseband is formed from Carbon TPT®, an advanced composite where layers of carbon fibers are oriented and fused at high temperatures, yielding a unique, captivating pattern. This meticulous material choice and complex case construction necessitated significant prototyping to achieve the dynamic, teardrop-inspired silhouette. To ensure water resistance of 50 meters, the case utilizes 12 spline screws in grade 5 titanium and Nitrile O-ring seals, echoing the secure assembly methods used in high-performance engineering.
