Description
The Omega Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 reference 522.10.43.50.01.001 is a special edition chronograph watch designed to commemorate the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. It is crafted from a single block of stainless steel, giving the watch a robust and sporty feel. The case measures 42.4 millimeters in diameter and 14.9 millimeters in thickness, with a lug-to-lug width of 46.2 millimeters. It is designed to fit comfortably on most wrists. The watch sits on a matching stainless steel bracelet with a fold-over clasp with a comfort setting for easy adjustment throughout the day. The clasp features a spring-loaded mechanism that allows for micro-adjustments to achieve a perfect fit.
The timepiece features a black matte dial with a tachymeter scale for measuring speed. The tachymeter scale is printed on a transparent disc beneath the sapphire crystal and illuminated from below with an orange Super-LumiNova ring. This design feature allows for excellent readability of the tachymeter scale in low-light conditions. The watch hands and hour markers are also coated with Super-LumiNova for nighttime visibility. The Omega Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 is a chronograph watch, meaning it features a stopwatch function in addition to displaying the time. The chronograph function includes a central chronograph seconds hand, a 30-minute chronograph counter at 3 o'clock, and a 12-hour chronograph counter at 6 o'clock. The small seconds dial is located at the 9 o'clock position. These subdials are the defining characteristic of this commemorative edition. The rings around the subdials are colored bronze, 18K yellow gold, and 925 silver, respectively, reminiscent of the Olympic medals awarded to first, second, and third place finishers.
The Omega Speedmaster Mark II Rio 2016 is powered by the Omega Co-Axial Calibre 3330, a self-winding mechanical movement with a silicon balance spring. The Co-Axial escapement is one of Omega's most significant innovations. It contributes to a smoother movement of the watch hands, reducing friction and wear on the escapement components. The movement offers a power reserve of approximately 52 hours when fully wound. The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters (10 bar), making it suitable for everyday wear and even light swimming.
