Description
The Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition [Reference 310.60.42.50.99.001] commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. The watch is crafted from 18K Moonshine™ gold, a proprietary alloy of gold developed by Omega that is said to be more resistant to tarnishing than traditional yellow gold. The vertically brushed step dial is also in 18K Moonshine™ gold and features facetted onyx hour markers.
The bezel ring is made of burgundy ceramic with a tachymeter scale. The tachymeter is a scale that can be used to determine speed or distance based on elapsed time. The bezel ring is also decorated with a laser-ablated negative tachymeter scale. The negative tachymeter scale is a mirror image of the standard tachymeter scale and is used for measuring average speed over a longer distance. The watch is powered by the Omega Calibre 3861, a manual-winding chronograph movement that is based on the Calibre 1861, the movement that was worn by the astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission. The Calibre 3861 is a Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement, which means that it has been certified by METAS (the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology) to be resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. The movement also has a power reserve of 50 hours.
The watch is water resistant to 5 bars (50 meters / 167 feet). It comes with a foldover clasp made of 18K Moonshine™ gold. The watch is limited to 1,014 pieces. The inner decorative caseback ring is crafted from 18K Moonshine™ gold and blackened. It features a partial world map of the American continent and a domed lunar meteorite inlay, representing the true proportions of the Earth and the Moon. The engraving on the caseback includes the mission patch for the Apollo 11 mission, as well as the inscription "On the Moon On Earth." GenderMen
