The case measures 41.5 millimeters in diameter and 16.2 millimeters in thickness. The watch lugs, which protrude from the case to accommodate the strap, have a width of 20 millimeters. The case back of the Speedmaster 57 is solid stainless steel, meaning it cannot be opened to view the movement inside. The timekeeping function is powered by the Omega Calibre 9300, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement. This movement is resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, a level that is exceptionally high for a mechanical timepiece. The Calibre 9300 features Omega's proprietary Co-Axial escapement, which contributes to the movement's high precision and durability. The Co-Axial escapement reduces friction by utilizing two interlocking wheels instead of a single pallet fork.
