The body of the watch is crafted from black ceramic, a remarkably tough and scratch-resistant material Zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) makes up the primary component of ceramic, and the addition of other elements, such as yttrium oxide (Y2O3), influences the material’s final properties [1]. In the case of the Planet Ocean, the ceramic is matte black, and its exceptional hardness ensures the watch case will appear pristine for many years. The case measures 39.5 millimeters in diameter and 14.5 millimeters in thickness. It features a screw-down crown, which helps to ensure the watch remains water-resistant up to 600 meters (60 bar). The unidirectional rotating bezel is also crafted from black ceramic and features a white enamel diving scale with markings up to 60. A unidirectional bezel only turns in one direction, typically counter-clockwise for dive timing applications. The movement beats at a frequency of 3.5 Hz (25,200 vibrations per hour) and offers a power reserve of approximately 55 hours. The caliber 8800 can be viewed through the sapphire crystal display window on the back of the watch.
