DescriptionThe Grand Seiko reference SBGW259, part of the Elegance Collection, commemorates the 60th anniversary of the brand's inaugural timepiece. It is a modern interpretation of the 1960 original, maintaining its core aesthetic while incorporating updated materials and construction. Its case is crafted from Brilliant Hard Titanium, a proprietary alloy exclusive to Grand Seiko. This material provides the lightweight characteristic of pure titanium but exhibits twice the hardness of standard stainless steel, resulting in greater scratch resistance. The Brilliant Hard Titanium also possesses a lighter hue, complementing the Zaratsu polishing, which is applied to enhance the case's multi-faceted design. The case measures 38.0mm in diameter, with a lug-to-lug distance of 45.7mm and a thickness of 10.9mm, representing a slight increase from the original's 35mm diameter, conforming with more modern preferences.

Mechanically, the SBGW259 is powered by the Caliber 9S64, a manual-winding movement. This movement provides a power reserve of approximately 72 hours (3 days) when fully wound. The mean daily rate is specified as +5 to -3 seconds per day, determined by measuring the movement in six positions over 12 days prior to casing. Practical, in use accuracy is rated at +10 to -1 seconds per day. The movement has been built with 24 jewels to reduce friction. A see-through case back, constructed from sapphire crystal, allows visual access to the finished movement. The front-facing crystal is a dual-curved sapphire, treated with an internal anti-reflective coating to enhance legibility. Water resistance is designated as splash-resistant, and magnetic resistance is rated at 4,800 A/m. The total weight of the watch and clasp is 55 grams. The supplied band is constructed from crocodile leather and is fitted using a three-fold clasp with a push-button release. It features allergy-safe metal.
