Its case, constructed from recycled stainless steel, measures 40mm in diameter and exhibits a lug-to-lug measurement of 43mm. The case height is specified at 12mm, contributing to a substantial yet wearable profile on the wrist. The watch head, separate from the strap, weighs 76 grams. The overall design incorporates a unidirectional Gear Bezel®, a distinctive feature specific to the Fortis brand, enabling precise timing of events. Water resistance is a significant aspect of this model, rated to 300 meters (1000 feet, 30 atmospheres), ensuring its suitability for professional diving and other water-related activities. This impressive water resistance rating is facilitated by a screw-down crown, equipped with a triple gasket system to prevent water ingress, in conjunction with, performance FKM gaskets throughout the watch’s build. The case back is fabricated from stainless steel and decorated with what Fortis terms "Ultra-Engraving," a deep and detailed marking.

Protecting the dial is a sapphire crystal, chosen for its exceptional scratch resistance. This crystal is further enhanced with an anti-reflective coating applied to both its inner and outer surfaces. This dual-sided coating minimizes glare and maximizes legibility under a variety of lighting conditions. The dial itself is a vibrant blue, featuring a textured Fortis "O-pattern." The hour markers are applied, rather than printed, adding depth to the dial, and are generously coated with Superluminova® X1, a luminous compound that glows blue in low-light conditions. The hour and minute hands feature a metallic finish and also incorporate Superluminova® X1 to ensure readability at night or underwater. The sweep second hand utilizes a distinctive "Bull's Eye" design that is, too, filled with Superluminova® X1, providing continuous visibility of the watch's operational status. The movement powering the Marinemaster M-40 is the Fortis UW-30, an automatic "Performance Calibre". This movement provides the essential timekeeping functions, including a date complication displayed via a window on the dial. The UW-30 calibre boasts a power reserve of 38 hours when fully wound and the calibre meets chronometer regulation standards. The Horizon Strap, crafted from hypoallergenic FKM rubber, is provided. FKM rubber is selected for it's durability. Its resitance to high temperates, corrosive chemicals and UV radiation. The selected strap is secured to the watch case with a screw pin system, and the strap attaches with a stainless steel pin buckle.
