This complication is based on pioneering Swiss research from the 1950s and 60s and helps divers to safely ascend from depths of up to 700 meters. The watch also features a unidirectional bezel for timing dives, a helium escape valve for preventing damage during saturation diving, and a water resistance of 500 meters.

The Shell Star Decompression Timer is powered by a Swiss automatic movement, the Caliber SW200-1 with a custom DELMA rotor. The movement has a power reserve of 38 hours and beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The case is made of stainless steel and measures 44 mm in diameter and 13.8 mm thick. The lug width is 24 mm and the weight is 150 grams. The crystal is made of sapphire with an anti-reflective coating.

The dial is black and features applied indexes with Super-LumiNova C5 luminous material. The hands are also coated with Super-LumiNova C5 for low-light visibility. The black unidirectional bezel has??marks for timing dives.
