Its 42 mm case is crafted from 18k red gold and features a screw-locked crown with two gaskets, ensuring water resistance to a depth of 300 meters (1,000 feet). A unidirectional, ratcheted bezel allows for safe timing during dives. The watch face is protected by a cambered sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, providing exceptional clarity and legibility.

Powering the Superocean Automatic 42 is the Breitling 17, a self-winding mechanical movement with a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.
