It features a robust stainless steel case measuring 38mm in diameter and 11.88mm in thickness. The watch weighs 161.38g with the bracelet, and the watch head alone weighs 67.7g. It has a unidirectional ratcheted bezel, a non-screw-locked crown with two gaskets, and a convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The case back is screwed in, ensuring water resistance up to 100 meters (10 bars).

Powering the Super Chronomat Automatic 38 is the Breitling 17 caliber, a self-winding mechanical movement with a power reserve of approximately 38 hours.
